The difficult airway courses from First Airway
As a authorized training center for the difficult airway courses from First Airway, we help meet the needs of non-physician practitioners like; nurses, respiratory therapists, medical first responders, paramedics, and critical care transport providers. There are 3 standardized courses from First Airway that meet these needs by focusing the lectures, discussions, skills practice sessions and code stations to the needs of each group.
If one of the standardized courses still doesn't fit the unique needs of a group, our faculty can customize one of the standardized courses to meet your needs. As an example, SWAT medics work under an austere environment that has several technical challenges. The essentials course can be customized to address their unique needs and ensure their customized course prepares them for airway and ventilation management in that environment. |
The fundamentals course is designed for healthcare providers that need to initiate and successfully manage the airway during those crucial first few minutes of an emergency. Nurses from the ICU, ED, PACU, and other high-risk areas in the hospital. EMS first responders like police officers and fire engine crews that often arrive several minutes before the ambulance. This 1-day course focuses on basic and intermediate airway management that saves lives by maintaining appropriate oxygenation and ventilation.

The next course in the series is the essentials course, designed for nurses, respiratory therapists, and paramedics that use advanced techniques but aren't utilizing medications to facilitate intubation. The course builds on the curriculum from the fundamentals course and includes optimum techniques for laryngoscopy, both with the standard blades and video assisted tools. The essentials course is also a 1-day course so things move a little faster but we know that you will feel better prepared for your next intubation.

The EMS course is designed for any airway manager that is expected to use medications to facilitate intubation. As the only 2-day course in the non-physician series, the EMS course incorporates algorithm decision trees that help practitioners pick the best device and the appropriate medications. The EMS course includes practicing management of difficult airways including the soiled airway and the failed airway. Participants of the EMS course will also incorporate CPAP/BiPAP and ventilator management strategies into their practice. We know that post-intubation management is just as important as intubation success.
